Rashawn Davis is the Executive Director of The Citizen Service, a nonprofit leader, writer, and public speaker committed to strengthening democracy, advancing civic engagement, and inspiring public leadership.

Rashawn’s journey into public service began early. At just 21 years old, he became one of the youngest individuals ever to qualify for the Newark municipal election ballot, running a grassroots campaign for City Council. The experience fueled a lifelong dedication to empowering communities and building more inclusive civic systems.

Prior to joining The Citizen Service, Rashawn served as Executive Director of The Andrew Goodman Foundation, where he worked with student leaders across the country to expand civic participation and protect voting rights. At Change.org, he led the organization’s Racial Justice Labs, investing $6 million into Black and Brown changemakers nationwide, work that received Honorable Mention from Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards. His public service includes a mayoral appointment to Newark’s historic Police Review Board.

As a public speaker, Rashawn has shared insights on democracy, leadership, and civic innovation with audiences at universities, public agencies, and private companies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy from NYU’s Wagner School. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute at Princeton University.
