Plainfield’s Youth Fellowship is named in Honor of Dr. Willa Cofield. She is Plainfield’s Civil Rights Activist. Dr. Willa Cofield at 96 years young, continues to dedicate her life to empowering the next generation of leaders with a passion for education and equity through civic engagement. Dr. Cofield is an American civil rights leader from Enfield, North Carolina. She has spent more than 70 years fighting for civil rights in her native town of Enfield, North Carolina, and in her current home of New Jersey. Earlier this year she released her book titled The Nine O’clock Whistle: Stories of the Freedom Struggle for Civil Rights in Enfield, North Carolina.
The Dr. Willa Cofield Youth Fellowship is dedicated to identifying and empowering young leaders (16 – 25) in Plainfield who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in their communities. Our application process is designed to recognize students with the commitment and potential necessary to drive positive change.
